Dec 10, 2015 – While Western New York hasn’t been much of a winter wonderland so far this December, you can still get into the holiday spirit this season by checking out one of the many Christmas festivals and lights displays around Buffalo, NY and Niagara Falls, NY.

We’ve rounded up some of the best–be sure to experience them before the holiday season is over.

Celebrate the holidays at a Christmas festival

Festival of Lights in Hamburg, NY

Location: Hamburg Fairgrounds; 5820 South Park Ave, Hamburg, NY

Dates: Every weekend through December 28; 5:00pm-9:00pm (grounds close at 10:00pm)

Price: $25/car; $50/bus

Located just 20 minutes south of Buffalo, NY, The Hamburg Fairgrounds is the site of the annual Festival of Lights, the largest Christmas festival in Western New York. Spectators can drive through nearly two miles of over 75 vibrant holiday displays, featuring over a million lights. Visitors can also walk the grounds and witness the “North Pole Experience,” featuring a charming village decorated for the holiday. It’s the perfect place to take festive photos and share in the Christmas spirit with loved ones.

Niagara Falls Winter Festival of Lights

Location: Queen Victoria Park, Niagara Parkway, Niagara Falls, ON, CA

Dates: Nightly, November 21, 2015 – January 31, 2016

Price: Donation-based (Suggested contribution: $5 – $10 per car; $1 per coach bus passenger)

With over one million visitors each season, the Niagara Falls Winter Festival of Lights features five kilometers of lights displays through the Niagara Parks, Dufferin Islands and surrounding tourist districts. In addition to holiday lights, displays include the world’s largest illuminated Canadian-American flag and new three-dimensional Canadian Wildlife. Friday nights and the nights leading up to Christmas also feature fireworks displays starting at 9:00pm.

Queen Victoria Park is only a half hour from Buffalo, NY and about 10 minutes from Niagara Falls, NY, so there’s no reason not to cross the border and celebrate the Christmas season with our Canadian neighbors (and tourists from around the world).

Our Lady of Fatima Shrine Festival of Lights

Location: Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, 1023 Swann Rd., Youngstown, NY 14174

Dates: Nightly, November 21, 2015 – January 6, 2016

Price: Free

With fifteen acres of gardens, over 75 beautiful lighted displays and an illuminated shrine over a beautiful Basilica, you won’t want to miss a visit to the Festival of Lights at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine this Christmas season. Whether you come for peace or prayer, the spiritual setting is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season in a gorgeous, tranquil setting. It’s just a short drive from Niagara Falls, NY, and less than 30 miles from Buffalo, NY, making it an easy weeknight getaway when you need some time to reflect.
