Just as we did last year, Kenmore Development is hosting a food drive this November to help fight food insecurity in Buffalo and Western New York.
Now through November 10, we will be collecting non-perishable food items and donations for the Helping Hands Food Pantry in Buffalo.
Donate to KenDev’s food drive
We’re asking residents at our KenDev apartment communities, employees and members of the local community to donate non-perishable food items, including (but not limited to):
- Canned goods
- Boxed mixes
- Pasta
- Rice
- Condiments
Residents can place the items they’re donating in a plastic bag outside their door by Thursday evening, November 9, 2017. The staff will be around to collect them first thing Friday morning, November 10, 2017.
Anyone else in the community is also welcome to donate by dropping off items at our main office located at 2746 Delaware Ave., Kenmore, NY 14217 anytime before November 10.
Our biggest hunger campaign ever
With the help of our residents, employees and the Buffalo community, we’re hoping to make this year’s food drive our biggest ever.
This year’s campaign is extra meaningful because not only will Kenmore Development be collecting food items — we’ll also be matching all monetary donations up to $5,000.
The funds we raise will be used to sponsor less fortunate families for the holidays. We will provide holiday meals as well as gifts to those families in need.
If you’re making a monetary donation, please be sure to label your gift as “Kenmore Development food drive.” You can drop off a check at our office at 2746 Delaware Ave.
Food insecurity in Buffalo & WNY
At Kenmore Development, we recognize that food insecurity remains an important — and often ignored — problem in our community. That’s why we’re doing our part to help address this problem locally.
The USDA defines food insecurity as a state in which “consistent access to adequate food is limited by a lack of money and other resources at times during the year.”
According to Feeding America, in 2016, 41 million Americans lived in food insecure households, including 13 million children. and 12 percent of households (15.6 million households) were food insecure.
Within the Food Bank of Western New York’s service area (Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara counties), 178,810 people (13.3% of the overall population) are food insecure. This includes 58,430 children, with 20.7% of the child population being food insecure.
Fighting hunger locally
We hope you’ll join us in making this holiday better for food insecure families in Buffalo and Western New York.
If you can’t make a monetary or food donation, there are still ways you can get involved and help, including volunteering with a local food bank, raising awareness, contacting elected officials and organizing your own food drive at your workplace, school or community.
We thank all of our residents, employees and community members in advance for their generosity. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our staff at answers@kendev.com or by calling (716) 874-7700.
